Simple yet beautiful. I can't get over the well use of the bloom effect on the bit art and simple colors. For this price, I think this game could serve as a good couch play game during hangouts.. i think i just beat a world record on this game . the only record i can see online is 890 thousand something and i got 1.27 miillion on classic mode. message me for details.. This is a pretty good game, I use it for whenever I'm bored. I really like the graphics and it runs very smoothly even with low-end PCs. And it's only for 2$. I recommend this game if you are an old-style arcade player.Only complaint is that sometimes a bug happens where the next wave of aliens just fly past you and you'd be left alone, leaving you to restart the game.Overall, this is a pretty good game! Will be better if the bug is fixed although it is not that common.. I have over 100 games on Steam, and yet this little game is probably the one I'm playing most on Steam (for Linux) at the moment. So I felt I should review it to let the devs know. They aren't making their fortunes on it after all. So buy it now, it's a lot more fun than many much higher priced games. It's a very simple but nicely balanced space invaders clone that has you jumping straight back in for another game when you die. It differs from old school space invaders in that the aliens don't approach, just slide side-to-side and shoot (though they do get a bit faster as you progress). You have infinite ammo and just hold down fire for a generous stream of bullets (though there could be some smarter strategy I'm missing). Once you kill one wave of aliens (four rows, each with one of seven or eight types) the next wave immediately pours in. You get a short-lived powerup weapon by shooting the spaceship alien that appears in the middle of the top row about half the time, and there's a nice slo-mo as you get it which can be used tactically. Waves can be shot as they arrive, which rewards planning when to get powerups.Once you get good at dodging, the skill is in choosing how to distribute your fire and keeping your score multiplier up by ensuring you don't get stuck on the wrong side of a hail of bullets (it rises as you shoot aliens but resets back to 1 if you don't shoot one for too long). The game feels fair, and it's quite relaxing when things are going well. The only very slight annoyance is that it slows down over time (noticeable after about an hour on my low-powered Linux box), maybe due to memory leaks (I have 8GB, but haven't checked the usage). But restarting is quick so it's not a big deal.So thanks for a fun game, devs. Now I'm off to beat my highscore.. THIS GAME IS F****** AWSOME!!! the graphics and the gameplay are astounding and the power up system is so cool, this is truly a gem of a game.. Super simple old school arcade shooter. Surprisingly fun and addictive, probably because of the quick sessions and the strive to beat your own high score. Nice presentation, too!. *This is a mixed review, read on to find out why*At first glance, I added this to my wishlist instantly when I saw it. What more could one want than a modern Retro styled Arcade Machine like Space Invaders on Steam? However, upon finally buying it, I found out quickly that it lacks expected features beyond bare bones Space Invaders. With that said here is what I thought of it: Pros:♦ Retro Arcade Machine feel ♦ Decent Retro Graphics ♦ Great Space Invader feel ♦ Sound/Music was decent♦ Keyboard controls worked (You can only use keyboard, see cons for more)♦ Great for killing time (If you have nothing to do or little time, this will suit you)♦ Multiplayer is cool (Take turns playing on the same pc to see who can get the better highscore, really good if you want to settle a bet or something)Cons:♦ Doesn’t add anything new to Space Invaders ♦ Needs local and global highscores for each game mode (Adding this will give you a reason to play as people love competing against others) ♦ No Achievements & Steam Cards (This game would be much better off with achievements to give people something to aim towards when playing)♦ Doesn't tell you the number of waves you have cleared (I'd personally like this out of own preference) ♦ Claims to be intense retro space shooter but has no difficulty progression (There are no bosses, waves don't seem to get more difficult due to being randomly generated and enemies don't change in variety. Therefore, difficulty relies on the five or so randomly generated variants of enemies to how difficult a wave is, which isn't really that difficult)♦ Enemies that give powerups are randomly generated (You can get them on any wave and don't have to do anything to get them. I would have expected hitting x score, clearing x waves or killing x units etc would trigger one, but you get them randomly which makes them pointless)♦ No ingame options (Can't change controls, graphics, sound levels from within the game)♦ Lack of enemie variants (Seems to be about five different enemies and that's it)♦ Can only use keyboard (Can't use controller, mouse or anything else)♦ Lack of Steam Features (Such as achievements, cards, highscores etc)Overall, despite the large number of cons over pros, this is a game I'd give a mixed review to if I could. It's not terrible but it's not good. You will get your monies worth if you like the basic bare bones Retro Arcade styled Space Invaders. However, it lacks anything more than that and doesn't add anything new to the Space Invaders game which you can play for free on almost any flash game site. Also, it has nothing other than the game score to keep you playing and lacks any sign of Steam Features. Lastly, for the price and what it is, you'll get a bare bones Retro Arcade Machine styled Space Invaders and nothing else. Therefore, if you like Space Invaders you'll get your monies worth and this is for you. However, if you don't then this isn't for you as you'll be disappointed with the lack of features.
